NORTHEAST CHAPTER PRESIDENT 2010 - 2011

Mark Cambria was born and raised in Staten Island, NY and then went on to Stevens Institute in Hoboken, New Jersey where he received his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. His interest in mechanical engineering at the time was related to automobiles. During his time at Stevens Institute Mark worked for John P. Piccione Construction Company which was a civil construction company for various projects. This gave him an introduction into the construction industry. Upon graduation and with little prospects for automobile engineering jobs in the area, Mark was intrigued by the field of Consulting Engineer. After several interviews he made a decision to pursue this area of the industry. He accepted a position with AKF Engineers in New York City where he designed projects for fit out of HVAC ductwork, VAV boxes and the like. As he progressed in his career he widened his scope of activities to include more complex HVAC projects. He has a special interest in automation and controls and these new projects allowed him to grow in this area of expertise. AKF was a great fit for Mark and his personality.

Mark left AKF after seven years because of a desire to leave the hassles of the New York City life, the commute, etc. So with much regret for the opportunities provided him, he left for a different type of life style in the Albany area. He worked for a short time with Robeson & Woes before moving on to SMRT Architects and Engineers where he worked in HVAC design, sales & marketing and project management for three years. In 2010 mark moved to M/E Engineering where he is Senior Engineer & Project Manager for HVAC projects.

Mark was introduced to ASHRAE by Emery Otruba who told him this was an organization for him as an HVAC professional. He took the advise and became of member of ASHRAE. He found it rewarding to be in the company of volunteers with positive thinking and dedication for the greater good of society.

The HVAC industry provides the opportunity to be challenged to find answers for issues that need an immediate solution that you can feel good about at the end of the day.

Mark has served on the Chapter Board of Governors, Treasurer, Vice President & Newsletter Editor, President-Elect & CTTC Chair and President in 2010 - 2011 Society Year. He was awarded the “Excellence in Programs Award” for his year as CTTC Chair which includes Chapter Programs.

The future for ASHRAE involvement will include serving the Northeast Chapter on the Board of Governors. He would consider any opportunities at the Regional and Society level if so nominated to serve.

Mark is married and has two young boys to keep him busy when not working. Mark was a competitive body builder until 2007 when work pressure kept him too busy to train. He enjoys Brazilian Ju Jitsu and time with the family. He will be joining USGBC soon and is a member of the Building Commissioning Association.

We thank Mark for his service to ASHRAE and wish him the best for his future in the industry.
