On January 15, 2021 the Northeast Chapter celebrates 70 years as a Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). ASHRAE is celebrating 125 years as a Society.
The charter meeting was held January 15,1951 at Panetta’s Restaurant in Menands, NY. Society President Lester T. Avery presented the “Empire State Capital” Chapter Charter of the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers (ASHVE) to temporary President Robert Taylor. Mr. Taylor accepted the Charter and became the first Chapter President. The chapter is the ninth chapter to be chartered by the Society.
Harry Levine was the first President of the Hudson-Mohawk Chapter of the American Society of Refrigerating Engineers. (ASRE)
In 1959 the two Societies merged to form the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The name of the chapter became the Northeastern New York Chapter. Muncy E. Waddell was the chapter president.
In 1991 the Chapter President was Joseph K. Ting. The name of the chapter was changed to the “Northeast Chapter” partially in response to the closing of the Western Massachusetts Chapter.
April will celebrate our Life Members at the chapter meeting. I invite all Life Members to attend the April meeting.
